Merry Christmas!

Greetings from our family to yours.  We are feeling like Noah in the flood with our torrential rainstorms, anxiously waiting for snow, and looking forward to our family being together for Christmas.  Here’s what we’ve been up to….

Taylor is in his 13th year at Hopewell Reformed Church, busy as ever with work. He is also on the Board of Trustees for Hope College, which enabled him to see Sarah when she was in Holland, as well as some old friends.

I’m still very happy teaching English to 10th and 11th graders at John Jay High School. No day is ever dull, and I have gained some extra wisdom from age, now that I have turned 50.

Hilary has moved back home and begun working at Ability Beyond Disability in Danbury, CT. As the Resource and Service Coordinator, she manages a supported independent living apartment complex and the in-home program, which provides services to kids and adults with disabilities who are living with their families. She works very long days and we barely see her! We are proud of her for landing a good job and beginning to pay off her student loans. When that is done, we think she may be packing her bags again, because we know that she left a piece of her heart in Mexico.

Sarah has been in Dakar, Senegal since August and is due home next week. She has been studying at the university there and living with a local family, learning the Wolof language, speaking French, and eating a lot of animal parts that she would rather not think about. She will return to Hope for her final semester in January and is very excited to be living in an apartment with her good friends above the 8th St. shops in Holland.

Andrew is a junior at John Jay High School. He worked very hard at football in the fall and had a good season. He has a thriving scrap metal business with his good friend Teddy, for which his pickup truck comes in very handy. He also has a lovely girlfriend named Brittney.  She has been a lot of fun to have around, and we especially loved it when she got out our old dress-up clothes and outfitted Andrew in a fashionable lime-green polyester leisure suit.

We wish you a joy-filled, peaceful Christmas…a time to treasure family and friends and give thanks that God chose to send Jesus to redeem our broken world.
