Super Sheryle

“If you would win a man to your cause, first convince him that you are his sincere friend.”
~ Abraham Lincoln

Last Friday I was at the Willow Creek Leadership Summit hearing vision cast about what makes a great leader.  This Friday I am under the tent at VBS watching a great leader lead.  Sheryle Silvern should have spoken at the Leadership Summit.  Each morning this week around two hundred people gathered under the tent; of those two hundred about fifty were volunteers working with VBS.  Sheryle knows how to mobilize people to work towards a great cause, our kids. She stands in the back and has very little up front time, but Vacation Bible School runs exceptionally well, because she has put great people in place to lead.  I stand amazed at Sheryle’s gifts.

Most of my colleagues get the “August sweats” when it is time for Sunday school to start and the teachers are not in place.  The pleas go out from the pulpit that we need somebody, anybody, to teach.   I don’t sweat through August because Sheryle consistently puts together an outstanding staff.  I know that she has said goodbye to some great teachers this year, but I am not sweating, because Sheryle has a great team that will work with her in filling the slots.

I am so thankful for the way this quiet, faithful woman leads and at the close of VBS we should all take the time to thank her.  I know that our volunteers would do anything for Sheryle.  As Lincoln says, she has won them as friends.

I am not sweating in August, but if you would like to help in any way with our children’s ministry, you may contact Sheryle at s.silvern@hrcrca.org.

When Sheryle does a leadership conference, I will be the first to sign up.  When she writes her first book on gathering volunteers, I will be the first to buy.

Thanks super Sheryle.

In Christ,

Taylor
