Worship is a Verb

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.  And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Colossians 1:16-17)

“Without worship, we go about miserable.” A. W. Tozer

This Sunday is Music Sunday.  We have the opportunity to worship with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs and to celebrate those who have led us in worship all year.  I am so thankful for the faithfulness of our choirs, our musicians, our worship bands and the people who support them behind the scenes doing sound and PowerPoint.   We have added a youth service again this year and I am thankful for that band that has re-formed under the leadership of Lynette Jee.

I love preaching, but I try to imagine worship if it were only word spoken and not word sung; our hearts would not soar, our spirits would stay grounded and we would be cut short of a glimpse into the throne room of God.  When John paints the picture of heaven in the book of Revelation worship in song is going on continually.  I am thankful that we get a taste of heaven as we sing.

At HRC we have developed worship styles that are different and I celebrate that, in part, because Paul points to different styles of songs of praise to God.  The thing that should unite us in our worship is not the style, but the focus of our worship-God.  The work of the people up front is not to perform, but to help us all to praise God.   Worship is not something we receive it is something that we do.  Worship is a verb.

I invite you to come ready to join in worship with the Chancel Choir, Chorale, Glory Bound, the Cherub Choir and the Bells of Praise and celebrate the wonder of what God has done leading us as a people into His courts with praise.

In Song,

Taylor
