The Big Ask

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I; send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)

In the Fellowship Hall this Sunday we will celebrate some of the most amazing ministries that Hopewell has been involved in these last ten years.  It will be an opportunity for all of us to “Make a Dent” in Hopewell Junction or beyond.  I know that to continue to grow these ministries moving them to higher levels we need people to step forward to serve.

We have a couple of big asks this weekend.

KIDS HOPE:  Mr. Olavarria, the principal at Gayhead will be a part of Foundations worship with teachers from Gayhead.  We celebrate the blessing of Kids Hope in that school. Dr. Steve Shuchat will be here from Van Wyck at our first service.  Steve has been a good friend of this church, but Steve is here for another reason as well; Kids Hope has been so successful at Gayhead that Van Wyck leadership would like to see Kids Hope continue into Junior High.  This is a daunting prospect for our Kids Hope leaders at Gayhead.  We are down in the number of mentors so, before we can consider moving to Van Wyck, we need to see increased mentors for Gayhead.  I met with the Kids Hope leaders and we established a goal of forty mentors.  We now have twenty two, so that will mean an increase of at least eighteen.  There will be a new training session in March and I hope we have twenty new mentors who will be trained.  That will put us in a position to work with Van Wyck as well.  For Van Wyck the “Big Ask” is to find a champion that would like to lead a mentoring program there.  I believe this church can do it!  I have seen people stepping forward again and again; when community leaders come knocking we want to open the door.

Beds INC:  Michelle Baer has found a bunch of beds in Lake Placid that the ministry can have for free.  Hopewell needs to provide trucks, trailers and drivers to head up to Lake Placid to pick up these beds.  The “Big Ask” for Beds INC is to find a new champion who will coordinate the vison to make sure that anybody in the greater Poughkeepsie area who needs a bed will have one.  If you would like to drive to Lake Placid please let me know.  If you would like to lead this ministry, please do the same.

Those will be some of the “Big Asks” that I have for this weekend, but at every table and every ministry there will be “big asks’ of all kinds.  There will be plenty of ways to “Make a Dent” outside of the church and I am counting on Hopewell to come through in big ways.  Find your place of service; respond to a “Big Ask.”  Here am I send me. Go for it!

In His Service,

Taylor
