Bed Blitz

“…my mouth praises you with joyful lips when I think of you on my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy.” (Psalm 63:4-6)

Cancel worship–be in service!  I have heard of many twenty-something congregations that choose one Sunday a month not have a worship service, but just have “service.”  They send attenders of that congregation into the city in which they live to serve in ministries scattered around them.  It is something that Barna research would say millennials are looking for: churches that do not serve themselves, but others.

This week Hopewell comes a bit closer to that vison.  We are calling it our “Bed Blitz.”  We are picking up a truck load of beds from Lake Placid.  We will bring that truck to Hopewell on Sunday morning, and in one Sunday morning blitz we are going to worship and then to service.  Anybody who has a truck or a vehicle that can fit a bed is invited to get a name and an address from the Beds INC ministry and take that bed to a person who needs it.  You are invited to set the bed up, pray with the family and help us all come a step closer to the vison that anybody in the greater Poughkeepsie area who needs a bed to sleep on will have one.

We had a great response from our Mission Fair for people to work with our beds ministry.  Debbie Ball, a newer attender at HRC, agreed to coordinate delivery and Tim Ball, Jim McCough, Deacon Harvey Jennings, and me are headed to Lake Placid to pick up the beds.  If you come to church ready to serve, hopefully, on Sunday we will put you into service.

We hope that people will be singing joyful praises to God on Sunday night as they lie on new beds of blessing from the worship and service of HRC.

Yours in Service,

Taylor
