Mother’s Day 2015

“Let your father and mother be glad; let her who bore you rejoice.” (Proverbs 23:25)

We received Andrew’s second semester grades this week.  They were unbelievable, truly a miracle.  Our language has become; “D’s equal degrees”, but he did not get a “D” this semester and he passed all his courses.  We are truly glad and are rejoicing.

I am thankful for Andrew’s mom this Mother’s Day, because I have seen the beauty of their relationship develop in ways it would not have if he had not been in his accident.  I came in from a night meeting this week and Cathy was texting. I asked who she was talking to and she said: “the kid.”  It was no surprise because “the kid” is on the phone with his mom multiple times a day, as she guides him through the latest study crisis, or lost key catastrophe, or they simply talk about how the day is going. At times I envy how close their relationship has become, but more than that I am thankful.

His grades are a reflection of the support of his mother; but, they also reflect his continuing recovery as he depends less on his mom – from the time when she put her life on hold to go and love him through his recovery, to the times that she now has to let him handle everything from moving out of his college room to managing his banking. She has been the balance of letting go and giving guidance.

So this Mother’s Day of 2015, I am very thankful for the mother of our three kids and I am very thankful that Andrew needs less of his mother.

Kids, I hope you give good reason for the one who bore you to rejoice this Mother’s Day, and fathers, I pray you take the time to honor the mother of your children.

Happy Mother’s Day,

Taylor
