Money Matters

“…indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”                                     (Matthew 6:32b-33)

Finances follow faith, faith does not follow finances.  I totally believe that.  We took a step of faith to give the financial backing to Bright Beginnings at the close of last year.  We rejoiced this week as we learned at our consistory meeting that we have sufficient student participation to support Bright Beginnings without subsidies.

We are coming to the end of our fiscal year and, as I have shared with you, we are hoping that our finances will follow our faith.  If they don’t, we need to take a look at our faith.  The promise that Jesus gives us from the Sermon on the Mount is that our father knows what we need, so if we keep faith first, finances will follow. We are significantly under-spent in our planned budget, but we still are experiencing a shortfall.  In the next two weeks we are looking to close a $15,000 gap between income and expenses.  I hope we will be rejoicing at our next consistory meeting as we were at this past one.

In the midst of financial challenges we have resources to spend from different pockets and spending is taking place that may challenge the perception that we need financial support at this time.  We are putting in new carpet upstairs.  That money comes from the Building Fund which funded the first carpet twenty years ago and now replaces the worn carpet upstairs.  We bought a new van that has been taking people on mission trips around the world and transports Odyssey members each week.  Money for the van has come from special giving and the Memorial Fund.

The General Fund is how we give to mission and ministry at HRC each and every day.  It is what keeps us going as we seek to be faithful in seeking the kingdom of God.  God knows what we need and we can be confident in that. As faithful people respond to a faithful God, we will be able to carry on with the vision that God gives us.  I invite you to be faithful in that way in these next two weeks.

If you would like to give an over and above gift before our fiscal year ends on September 30,  just write on the memo line of your check “Faithful Fall Campaign” or go to this webpage to give and specify the “Faithful Fall Campaign.”

Thank you all for your generosity as we respond to a generous God.

In Christ,

Taylor
