A Great Closer

“You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will produce thanksgiving to God through us;  for the rendering of this ministry not only supplies the needs of the saints but also overflows with many thanksgivings to God.” (2 Corinthians 9:11-12)

Lisa Ruvo was our closer this week; she came into my office with the official numbers that we ended our fiscal year with income matching expenses. You could say that givers in this church hit it out of the park as our Faithful Fall Campaign raised over $18,000 to close any gap that we had at the end of the year.  Thank you to everyone who stepped up to the plate!

People at the congregational meeting did not raise their hands to cheer, but we were all thankful for that good news.  We are thankful that we made it, but we do not want to be a congregation that depends on special appeals to close our giving gaps, so we encourage people to give faithfully and regularly throughout the year. We have plans for teaching and pledging to encourage this to happen.

At the same meeting Sheryle Silvern presented her goals for the coming year in children’s ministry. She shared her goals of regular and faithful attendance of our kids in the Sunday School.  We see large numbers registered, but inconsistent numbers week to week.

I shared “God Whispers” that I heard from the prayers of the people and the Spirit of God through our time of prayer and fasting during our prayer vigil. These “whispers” came to me in four areas:

 1) Revival- a desire to see revival in our worship and in our witness.
 2) Next Generation- a desire to understand and reach a new generation.

3) New Leadership- a desire to see new and younger leaders guiding Hopewell.
4) Small Groups- a desire to see a refocusing and revitalization of our Christcare ministry.

These will be the areas I will focus on and areas the church will be paying attention to this year.  It may not have been as exciting as the seventh game of the World Series, but we are certainly glad that we came out on top.
