For All the Saints

To all God’s beloved,… who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 1:7)

This Sunday we celebrate All Saints Sunday.  In the reformed tradition we recognize that the Bible calls all, who are in Christ Jesus, saints.  It is a day to remember those saints who have gone on to glory in the past year and remember we are surrounded by “so great a cloud of witnesses.”  We offer you the opportunity to light a candle for a loved one whom you wish to remember before the church.

We are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses in another way.  Included in our bulletin is a list of all the memorials that have been given to HRC since 2008.  Our memorial team has done a lot of work to get this list together and ready to go into the memorial book that is the narthex.  Since 2008 money from the Memorial Fund has gone to equip the saints for the work of ministry in training ChristCare and worship leaders.  We have restored our kitchen and improved our sound.  We have purchased communion ware and hardware for the front doors. Most recently the Memorial Fund has helped pay for the van which moves our people into mission.  The list is long and the blessings are many.  Thank you to all who have giving in loving memory and thank you for the families remembering the church through their loved ones.

I am sure that the saints who have gone before us are excited that ministry continues to move on this earth through gifts given in their name.  Our established tradition is to light candles on this Sunday.   Our new tradition will be to remember those named through gifts to our Memorial Fund and to celebrate the work that has been done in the past year through those gifts.  Take a look at the list on Sunday as we celebrate the saints of Hopewell.

For All the Saints,

Taylor
