The Prophet Joel in New Hampshire

“Then afterward I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. 29 Even on the male and female slaves, in those days, I will pour out my spirit.” (Joel 2:28, 29)

Hillary is baffled; the young men and the young women, and the old women for that matter, are going for Bernie.  The Republicans are baffled; the disaffected and the disenfranchised are going for the billionaire Trump.  As this election week unfolded in New Hampshire it seems that the traditional category of insiders and outsiders is breaking down.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

As the fourth century B.C. unfolded in Israel the prophet Joel foresaw a day when the category of the insiders and outsiders would break down and the spirit would be poured out on all flesh.  For followers of Christ we see that happening not in New Hampshire, but at Pentecost fifty days after the resurrection.

We see this promise, not in New Hampshire, but in Hopewell as we ordain and install two women to consistory and we introduce nine prophets, the 2016 confirmation group.

Shurawl Sibbles will be ordained as an elder and Cindy Gerber will be ordained as a deacon.  Both women have attended meetings to get a sense of what will be expected of them, but I can say from seeing both of them engaged in those meetings that they will bring great gifts and great blessing to the work of ministry at Hopewell.  If you are an elder or deacon in this church, or the greater family of reformed and Presbyterian churches I invite you to come forward at one, or both, services to lay hands on and share the blessing of the spirit on these two women who will dream dreams and share visions.

We will also lay hands on our young men and young women who will prophecy and see visions.

Our confirmands and their (mentors) are: Priscilla Conrad (Toni Viau), Jordan Duwe (Lynn Reschke), Robbin Gerber (Colette Varanouskas), Hunter Nuzzo (Karen Shogren), Erik O’Connor (Jim Booth), Sollande Sibblies (June Nuzzo), Allison Smoot (Lynette Jee), Scott Stensrud (Rick Rieland), Deanna Tracy (Lourdes Kleid.)  They will kneel before us as we pray for them in both services.

We invite you to keep the names of these women and young prophets before you on your prayer list and pray from them throughout this year.  Pray that God’s Spirit will be poured out in powerful ways and that they shall see visions and prophecy for the glory of God.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

In the Spirit,

Taylor
