A Sunday for All Ages

This Sunday is Music Sunday so I asked our Director of Music Ministry, Kate Valdivia, to write this week’s Touché.

“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.”  From Psalm 95

This past year has run the length and breadth of my emotions, from the birth of my son to the loss of my grandmothers.  Hopewell has also felt this range over the past year– the marriage celebrations, like Laura and Richard, to the announcement of Pam’s departure to the loss of loved ones, like Anne Jackson and Norma Jacobs. It’s so easy to get caught in the unending ebb and flow of sadness and happiness.  However, through it all, the highs and lows and everything in between, there is joy.  Paul tells us in Philippians to “Rejoice in the Lord always.”  Not just when things are going well, or when exciting things happen, but also in our sadness and suffering.  Joy is not dictated by events that happen to us, but rather by Christ who lives within us. He is the source of our joy and keeps us rejoicing, even when we are weeping.

This year, the theme for Music Sunday is joy. Blending all their gifts, members of Glory Bound, Bells of Praise, Chancel Choir, Hopewell Chorale and the Hopewell Dance Team will be leading worship together. Joint services like this are a joyful occasion, a celebration of the unity we share in Christ. Next year, it is the hope of the worship team to be able to do a few more joint services together. Our worship is always flawed, but the Spirit of God takes what we offer and perfects it. So come; let us sing, play and dance with joy before the Lord.

In Christ, Kate

This Sunday we also celebrate a year done well by our Sunday school teachers as we have an opportunity to thank them for their service to our kids of the kingdom.

We also rejoice with our Kids Hope mentors and prayer partners as they conclude a great year of ministry.

It is fitting that we bring together our ministry with kids inside the church and kids in our community as we sing in celebration of all that God has done and is doing.  It will be a Sunday for all ages.

In Joy,

Taylor
