God’s Preferred Future

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.”  (Romans 12:1 The Message)

Our vision: 167 Living-creating, developing and encouraging transformed followers of Christ who live the life of faith from one hour on Sunday through the rest of the 167 hours of the week.

The consistory and the staff met last night to share vision for where we are headed in the coming year.  One of our goals is to see more synergy between staff and consistory as we lead at HRC.  We lived that goal last night.

The intro to the evening came around 167 Living.  This vision is to see everyone being transformed by understanding God’s calling on their life. To make that clearer we attached some other words to the mission statement which look at our goal to create, develop and empower followers of Christ here.  We want to be inviting to those not on the journey, equipping those that are on the journey and empowering everyone who joins in the journey.  We also spell out where the number 167 comes from because that can be confusing to folks who are just walking in.

There were three areas that our goals focused.

  • More people connected in worship. To live the next 167 hours of week we believe that one hour of worship needs to be a priority for all of us.  We want to see an increase in worship attendance of followers and an increase in worship of those who are seekers.
  • More people connected together. The second part of 167 Living is equipping and we see this happening in small groups of people getting together to encourage transformation.  We have started some 201 groups out of our Faithwalking retreats and we need to develop more groups that get people together and engaged with life-on-life transformation.
  • More people connected in mission. Finally 167 is about finding that place that God has called you to make a difference for the kingdom in the church and in the world.

It was a good evening that was just a beginning.  Now our goal is to put teams and metrics around these ideas.  We want everyone to develop that 167 Living that Paul describes in Romans 12 and Gene Peterson translates in The Message.  It sounds like Peterson had our vision statement in mind in his translation.

Yours in Transformation,

Taylor
