Christmas Giving

“Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (James 1:17)

Last weekend was great at HRC.  We received nine new members on Sunday.  Saturday we sent out a bunch of guys to work on homes with Community Mission Program. We had other folks delivering beds with Beds INC.  We hosted a Transformation Workshop led by our Ridder Church Renewal Team.  We had a large and energetic group of kids out for Christmas Pageant practice.  We ended the day with a concert at Changepoint with Odyssey and the Pure Joy band.  It was a great weekend to be a part of Hopewell. We continue to be a place of giving and living the life of faith.

This past Sunday we launched the Mary Merillat mission tree.  This is an opportunity to give to our missionaries and missions here at home, in our community and around the world.  I made a special appeal for Ray LeGrand Jr .who needs new hearing aids, and we raised well above our goal in one Sunday.  Thousands of dollars in giving goes out as gifts from HRC. Giving is in our DNA.

I write this on Giving Tuesday, our nation seeks to remember that it is not all about the stuff.  We have made it through Black Friday and Cyber Monday and now, even our materialistic culture acknowledges it is time to give back.

For Christ followers our giving does not come at the end of our getting, rather it comes at the beginning because of God’s grace.  Every good gift is from above and the response of those who have received is to give.

Our General Fund giving through 2015-2016 was very good.  The place where we fell short was in our Christmas and Easter appeals.  So this Christmas I encourage you to live into your giving DNA.

I have sent this note, with an envelope to all on our giving list.  I include it as my Touché so that we may touch others who may not get the letter and to doubly encourage those who do. Please take some time to consider a good and generous gift this Christmas.  You may send it in, place it in the offering, or give online here. Just indicate that it is a Christmas gift.

Your generous act of giving comes from the perfect gift given to us in Jesus. Thank you.

Merry Christmas,

Taylor W. Holbrook
