Acting Thanks

“You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will produce thanksgiving to God through us; for the rendering of this ministry not only supplies the needs of the saints but also overflows with many thanksgivings to God.”            (2 Corinthians 9:11-12)

Thanksgiving is the time when families come together.  It is fitting then that the family of God comes together as well. We will worship with every church that names the name of Christ in the Hamlet of Hopewell Junction.  On Thanksgiving Eve at 7 PM St. Columba, The Vineyard, The Church of the Resurrection, Valley Christian Church and HRC will gather at St. Columba. We hosted last year and we celebrate together for the second year.  I will be in Michigan as Cathy’s family faces the challenge of a cancer diagnosis this year, but Wesley will represent Hopewell up front and I hope you will represent Hopewell in the pew.

Having Thanksgiving away from our home means the offering will go to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Columba.  This is a good cause that helps the poor in our community, but it means that we need to do some extra work in making sure that a core ministry of ours is funded for the year.  Beds INC is in its 8th year as a ministry of HRC.  We partner in this work with Love In the Name of Christ.  Our goal is to make sure that every person who needs a bed in Dutchess County has a bed to sleep on.

The Apostle Paul speaks of thanksgiving in action that overflows with thanksgiving to God.  We have the opportunity give thanks in action.  For $165 you can give a twin bed mattress, box spring and frame to a person in need.  For $175 you give a full bed mattress.  I hope you will take a moment to give thanks this year by writing a check if you feel led to do so.  Just put Beds INC on the memo.

Toni Viau has taken over coordination of this ministry. She needs people to deliver beds. The green van is used for this and Love INC sets up the contact to deliver.  (Primarily through our own Bill Proal.)  We never dreamed this ministry would have the impact it has had, but your generosity has produced great thanksgiving.

I close with a story of ministries coming together.  Last month I took a bed to a house that was in crisis.  I pulled up and it turned out the home was that of my Kids Hope kid.  He had moved away, things had not worked out, and the family moved back to Dutchess County.  I had lost track of him after Kids Hope, but connected again through Beds INC.  We are supplying the needs of the saints as thanksgiving over flows to God.

Happy Thanksgiving, Taylor
