Gen Next

“I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, lives in you.  For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands;  for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:5-6)

An Easter Psalm?

“Why do the nations conspire, and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and his anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds asunder, and cast their cords from us.”  He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord has them in derision.”  (Psalm 2:1-4)

Money Matters

“…indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”                                     (Matthew 6:32b-33)

Finances follow faith, faith does not follow finances.  I totally believe that.  We took a step of faith to give the financial backing to Bright Beginnings at the close of last year.  We rejoiced this week as we learned at our consistory meeting Read more »

Wednesdays @ the Well

“The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.”

(Jesus)

I have preached many sermons, some good, some bad, but my true hope for every sermon is for lives transformed by deeper connections with Christ.  I know that most times we sit through a message, consider it good or bad, and walk away from worship with little changing in our lives.  As we have Read more »

Membership – Does It Matter?

“…so that through the church the wisdom of God in its rich variety might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.”  (Ephesians 3:10)

Pretty lofty language that Paul uses for the church, we do not hear that much these days.  More accurately we hear the strains of the great hymn about the church: “Though with a scornful wonder we see her sore oppressed, by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed.”  Those inside and outside of the church are drawn to Christ, but not his church. Re: What Will Be REVEALed?

The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul? I have rejected him from being king over Israel. Fill your horn with oil and set out; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.” (1 Samuel 16:1)

I preached my first sermon after I was called to Hopewell, almost fourteen years ago, on this text from 1 Samuel 16.  I preached my first sermon after I was called to Middlebush, New Jersey, almost twenty six years ago on this text as well.  It has been a key text for my life.  I want to be where God is breaking out, Read more »
