The Salay Family

HRCMPIC Salays

The Salay Family

Larry and Susan Salay support Wycliffe Bible Translators, a non-profit organization working with the Salasacan Indians of Ecuador. Originally part of the Quechuan speaking Indians of Peru, their tribe was forcibly resettled years ago to a small mountain top area in Salasaca. Hence their dialect differs substantially from both today’s Quechuan language and also their Spanish speaking host country. Their religion is a combination of Catholicism and animism. The Salays and their partner, Shedd, were befriended by a small evangelical church in the village of Salasaca, and as the Word of God is translated into their own heart-language, the pastor of that church has become very anxious that the work be accomplished. Since most of the Salasacans are illiterate, Susan’s primary task is to develop  both the desire to read and also the literacy skills needed in order that they might read the Bible when it is completed.

Tom Johnson

Tom Johnson and Family

Tom Johnson and his family support the efforts of The Evangelical Church of the Republic of Niger, RCA’’s mission partner in Niger. Founded shortly after Niger’s national independence in 1961, EERN is the oldest and largest Protestant denomination in this Muslim-majority (98 percent) country. Located in the Sahara Desert, Niger is the world’s poorest country (186th out of 187 on the United Nations Development Program’s Human Development Index, a composite measure of life expectancy, education, and living standard), and 50 percent of its population is under the age of 15. EERN ministries reflect this context: they focus on  evangelization, education, health, and community development.

Partnerships and Organizations

J-LIFE Africa

MPIC J-Life-South-Africa-LogoJ-Life Africa is a non denominational movement that exists to train leaders to mobilize disciple-making movements across Africa. J-Life believes that the most effective way to bring life transformation is not through the age-old “seminar” or “lecture” model, but rather through “life-on-life” mentoring and coaching.  The “life- on-life” concept is based on spending more time with trainees. The more time we spend in close relationship with the trainees, the more we will    transfer the DNA of Christ. Each student will progress through formal theological training and can, if they so wish, complete a degree in theology. But the importance for us is not the content as much as the coaching and mentoring for life change and impact. J-Life seeks to mobilise leaders that want a holistic approach to the wonderful news of Christ, an approach that will transform communities.

Mid-Hudson Love INC

Mid-Hudson Love in the Name of Christ (Love INC) is a local Christian organization that mobilizes volunteers who work together making a difference by helping people in need in our local communities.  It’s a cooperative effort that makes a lasting impact on individuals, families, and children in need. HRC is just one of the many Mid-Hudson Partner Churches that have committed to the Love INC model of collaborative ministry. Love INC offers a single point of contact for people in need to tap into resources in the community, and provides tangible opportunities for Christians to begin to meet those needs. Welcomed are donations (see below) of important items that cannot be purchased with food stamps, as well as gently used furniture in good condition. For many in need, having sturdy, comfortable furniture can make a house a home and give us a hopeful sense of place. HRC can help by placing the donated items in the storage bin located on the left of the main entrance at the base of the stairs. For furniture donations contact Mid-Hudson Love INC Clearinghouse directly at 845-471-0102, # 2, or email furniture@mhlinc.org.  To find out about volunteer opportunities and how you can become more involved visit http://www.mid-hudsonloveinc.org/how-can-you-help/volunteer-opportunities/ or contact our liaison, Toni Viau at 845- 797-6414 or by email tonisbug39@aol.com.
